Commentary on "Power Struggle"

Day 7: Friday September 25, 2009

 

Many biblical passages are suggested for reading followed by two quotes from Ellen G. White. Remarkably the first quote from Gospel Workers is a warning against individual judgment concerning church leadership on the heels of just spending a week learning to be careful of how and what we are being taught from God’s Word by our leadership. It seems someone missed the whole point of this week’s study as we are asked to do something that is clearly not biblical.

The Lord has given each of us as individuals; eyes to see, ears to hear, and minds to think. We each have our own individual souls to consider also. The Bible is replete with implication, suggestion, and command to exercise these tools he has given us to make decisions for ourselves concerning many things – especially those matters eternal. God has given us plenty of evidence to trust His Word. We have a great responsibility to examine carefully everything we are being taught against His Word in its proper context. Consider also that we all are teachers to some extent; whether it is to spouse, children, or others – anyone we have an influence over becomes a responsibility to us for what we share. All who teach are held to a higher responsibility by the Lord, please be careful and diligent to be as accurate as possible. Ultimately you will answer to God – at that point what any man or any woman might think is worthless.

 

Summary

1. Those who are leaders should follow God’s Word in context not pretext or proof text.
2. Those who are leaders should be our best examples of a servant’s heart.
3. Those we lead deserve our best effort to deliver God’s message accurately.
