Commentary on "Clothed in Christ"
Day 1: Sabbath Afternoon, June 18, 2011 - Introduction
OVERVIEW
Today's lesson describes the hopeless situation we are all born into because of the fall. The lesson ends giving us hope, by revealing there is a plan of salvation, designed to bring us restoration from this dilemma.
OBSERVATIONS
The lesson ends, by teaching:
"...we have the gospel, the plan of salvation, which at its core is about restoration, about taking the old, the broken, the decaying and making it new."
Is restoration truly the core of the gospel? Or, is it a resulting blessing that accompanies our acceptance of the gospel?
I would suggest that the core of the gospel is Jesus Himself!
Jesus is the only being capable of appeasing the wrath of God that should rightly be directed at us. The core of the gospel is that Jesus acted as our substitute, sacrificing Himself, taking our punishment, to pay our penalty for sin. It is only because of His sacrifice that we can be made right with God.
Restoration is a result of salvation. Jesus is the core of salvation.
