Commentary on "Clothed in Christ"
Day 4: Tuesday June 21, 2011 - Putting Off, Putting On
OVERVIEW
The writer of today's lesson goes on to address more of what it means to be clothed in Christ and the resulting transformation.
OBSERVATIONS
I feel like these lessons do not fully stress the profound significance of what it truly means to be in Christ.
The "in Christ" promises of scripture are typically stated in the past or present tense. In other words many of these in Christ promises are already true. Even more significant is the fact that we are not waiting on the 2nd coming in order for them to be realized.
Below is a small sampling of what it actually means to be found to be in Christ:
The most profound significance of those promises, is how these transformations are being done TO us, not by us!
Also note how there are no disclaimers about our behavior, that negates these promises. Why? Because when we fall short, and we do, God disciplines us until He gets us back on track. (Heb. 12:4-12). He is keeping us safe, in spite of destructive old selves (1 John 5:18).
