Commentary on "Happy Are You, O Israel!"
Day 3: Monday, July 25, 2011 - Fire From Before the Lord
OVERVIEW
Today's lesson paints a dismal picture of what happens when our worship is not authentic. The lesson refers to the story of Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's 2 sons who were killed because they "offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command."
OBSERVATIONS
The following point is made after this story:
"What a powerful representation of the plan of salvation. At the Cross, the “fire from God,” the wrath of God, “consumed” the offering, and that was Jesus. Thus, all who put their faith in Him never have to face that fire, that wrath, because a substitute did it for them."
Really? Is placing our faith in Him as our substitute enough to keep us from facing that fire?
If so, why then does SDA doctrine teach sabbath keeping and an Investigative Judgment are also necessary in order to have that level of assurance? If Jesus' substitution is really enough, why does SDA doctrine also teach that I must exactly replicate His behavior as my example as well?
