Commentary on "Happy Are You, O Israel!"

ANE EDWARDS

Day 4: Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - Happy Are You, O Israel

OVERVIEW

Today's lesson addressed Moses' response to becoming aware he would die soon and how instead of wallowing in pity, Moses gave a blessing over Israel, reminding them of the mighty acts of God.

It reminds us how essential it is to remember God's actions on our behalf as a part of our worship experience.

OBSERVATIONS

The lesson does describe the necessity of praise. It's important to remember, however, that none of the examples of praise and worship in the Bible are to be seen as means of becoming close to God unless we are already His. Moses and Israel were already God's redeemed people, and praise was essential. We are God's people only when we repent and receive His sacrifice and are born of the Spirit.
