Commentary on "God as Redeemer"

Day 1: Sabbath Afternoon, January 14, 2012 - Introduction

 

OVERVIEW

Today's lesson describes the hopeless condition of sin and explains how only the Creator Himself, could solve the problem. The lesson quotes Ephesians 2:13 to prove salvation is not based on our works, but rather on how Christ bore God's wrath, taking our penalty for sin upon Himself. 

 

OBSERVATIONS

I actually agree with what today's lesson is teaching. HOWEVER, I cannot reconcile it, with what Chapter 28 of the "Great Controversy" teaches. 

The "Great Controversy" teaching about the Investigative Judgement, dramatically contradicts the profound salvational truth Ephesians 1-2 is teaching. 

If salvation is truly, not based on our works, then why is it necessary for an Investigative Judgement of works? Why does Jesus need to evaluate our every work to determine if salvation can be granted to us?

 

SUMMARY

1. Salvation truly is based on the work of Christ alone, on my behalf. 
2. The fact that Jesus has to evaluate my every work via an Investigative Judgement is a direct contradiction to the Ephesians passage that today's lesson quotes.
