Commentary on "God as Redeemer"
Day 3: Monday, January 16, 2012 - The Gospel in the Old Testament
OVERVIEW
Regarding the fall of man, today's lesson teaches that "We are also assured that this major conflict will not be eternal, for the head of the enemy will one day be crushed. In these verses, not only is the great controversy first revealed, but we also are told how it is going to end."
OBSERVATIONS
Sunday's lesson sure "seemed" to acknowledge that God has already triumphed over and shamed the enemy at the cross.
But then today's lesson actually reveals the truth of what Adventism really believes and teaches in regards to this, that the crushing of the enemy is yet a future occurrence, that will "one day" happen, but not until the Second Coming.
It's another teaching of Adventism, that robs the Gospel of its radical life changing power. According to Colossians 2:14 the enemy was crushed and disarmed (past tense) at the cross. Because of that, when we are found to be in Christ, NOTHING, not even demons, can ever again separate us from the love of God (Rom. 8:39) because, we have already been delivered from the domain of darkness (Col. 1:13) and are safely hidden in Christ (Col. 3:3).
SUMMARY
- Satan's power was disarmed and defeated at the cross. We already know who won! Because of that sin and death hold no power over believers.
